Xiaojing Gao, LLM, BSN, RN
Xiaojing Gao is a driven third-year law student at The George Washington University Law School, pursuing a Juris Doctor degree with a concentration on Health Law. With a diverse background as a Chinese Registered Nurse, Licensed Public Dietitian, and Advanced Massage Therapist, Xiaojing brings a unique perspective to her legal studies.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Cum Laude) from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and her LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law (with Honors) from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. During her academic journey, Xiaojing showcased her innovative spirit by inventing a medical device and developing Telehealth software tailored for maternal care, for which she obtained a patent and copyright respectively.
Actively engaged in her academic community, Xiaojing is currently the Director of Alumni Relations at the Student Bar Association at GW, and the Founder and President of the GW Medical Malpractice Law Association. She previously served on the board of the Asian Pacific American Law Association, and the Women of Color Collective. Additionally, she represented GW Law in the 13th Annual Health Law Regulatory & Compliance Competition, highlighting her dedication to health law.
Xiaojing has gained valuable legal experience through internships at the D.C. Superior Court (Domestic Relations Branch), a large non-profit healthcare organization in Cleveland (Risk Management and Medical Records Departments), and an international law firm in Ohio. She worked as a student attorney at the Jacob Burns Community Legal Clinics in the District of Columbia, representing individual clients on housing/health equity cases.
Besides her legal training, she received her nursing training as a Chief Nurse Intern at top hospitals in China, including Shanghai East International Medical Center, Shanghai Mental Health Center, Shanghai No.1 Maternity and Children's Health Hospital, Shanghai TCM-Integrated Hospital, and Shuguang Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Actively engaged in the legal and medical community, Xiaojing is an active member of over 14 national legal and medical associations, including the American Bar Association, American Medical Association, the District of Columbia Bar Association, the Food and Drug Law Institute, American Health Law Association, American College of Legal Medicine, American Association of Nurse Attorneys, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Women’s Bar Association, and American Association for Justice. Committed to giving back to her community, she volunteers with the D.C. Bar Association every month and teaches Citizenship Classes at the D.C. Chinatown Service Center as an instructor every weekend. In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, running, and painting.
